Dr John Gowardman joined Queensland Physician Care in 2020, which is located at the highly established and recognized private Wesley Hospital, located in Auchenflower, Brisbane.

He studied medicine at the University of Auckland, School of Medicine (NZ) graduating in 1986, BHB, MBChB. He is a dual qualified senior specialist in both internal medicine (FRACP, acute and general subdivision) and Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM).   Dr Gowardman was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1994 and is a foundation fellow of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (JFICM 2001) and latterly a  fellow of the College of Intensive care medicine(2010).

He is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.

Dr Gowardmans’ main interests are acute hospital, internal medicine, perioperative medicine and Intensive Care medicine where he is senior specialist at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Intensive Care Service, since 2006 and Internal Medicine and Aged Care (IMAC) since 2019.

Dr Gowardman has worked extensively in both Australia and NZ over the last 35 years in both fields accumulating significant experience in the above.

He enjoys working at QPC whereby it provides him flexibility of practice in acute hospital medicine and provides great team support which is vital when managing complex hospital in- patients and providing excellent continuity of care.

Dr Gowardman has a longstanding interest in infections in short term vascular access devices in particular central venous catheters (CVCs) and arterial lines in the intensive care, perioperative and HDU context.  He has published widely.
